About

Rep. Annie Tietze was first elected to the Kansas House of Representatives in 2006. She represents the 56th House District, which includes northwestern Topeka.

Born and raised in Shawnee County, Annie and her husband, Dennis, have two grown sons: Luke and Mark, as well as two grandsons. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education from Emporia State University and a Masters in Communication Studies from the University of Kansas. She went on to devote 30 years to the field of public education and as a classroom speech teacher and debate coach.

Within the community, Annie has served as the Civil and Human Rights Director for the Kansas National Education Association and is also involved with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). She is involved with St. Francis Connections and works to recruit and retain qualified physicians within the Topeka area. She and her husband are members of the First United Methodist Church in Topeka, where Annie volunteers with the Divorce Care Support Group.

As a member of the Kansas House of Representatives, Annie serves on the House Committees on Commerce and Labor, Economic Development, and Health and Human Services, as well as the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Tourism. In 2008, Annie was one of 36 individuals throughout 11 states selected by the Council of State Governments to participate in the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD). BILLD is a leadership training program designed to help legislators develop the skills necessary to become effective leaders, informed decision-makers, and astute policy analysts.
